Tips For Course Material Adoptions

SUMMER / FALL SEMESTER ADOPTION INFORMATION for 2010

Some reminders when completing the course material adoptions:

PLEASE Fill out the forms online completely! If you e-mail or phone us with your adoption in we will need all the following information as well. Update any information needed including, class number, office phone, etc.

1) The adoption history for your class is available online.

2) Indicate if there will not be a text (NO TEXT REQUIRED) as this gets communicated to your students who come to us looking for a book for your class. In the Quick Adoption or Direct Entry method there is a box to click on for "no text" classes.

3) VERY IMPORTANT: In the ordering process, you have three choices for indicating your preference for book purchases. How you use the book in class is extremely important to students. If you indicate the book is: a) REQUIRED- you are expecting the student must have the book, lab manual, course packet, etc., completion of readings/assignments/tests. If you indicate the book is b) RECOMMENDED -you are indicating that the student need not necessarily purchase the books, but strongly recommended for students to read. If you indicate the book is c) OPTIONAL (additional helpful materials such as study guides, solution manuals, etc.) you are indicating that students do not have to have the book for readings & assignments but you want them available for students who wish purchase one.

**PLEASE take care to indicate the appropriate choice as this communicates to your students whether they are required to have the book or not**

4) Indicate in the message box if students will need a PRS unit.

5) If choosing a package that students will be required to purchase, please consider whether ALL components in the package will be used. Students do struggle to pay for their course materials; so, if everything in the package isn't required, consider re-adopting the current textbook being used so we can buy their textbooks back at buyback and provide as many used books for the upcoming term as we can.

**Please be aware that we strive to acquire for our students the greatest number of used books. We do not adjust our order quantities or automatically order new books to ensure that departments receive complimentary materials from publishers.
6) If a class is a continuation or sequence class, please indicate that in the message box so we do not order books for the entire class again.

7) If you will be having students purchase a course pack with items needing copyright clearance, please visit our website www.ndsubookstore.com (textbook link, then faculty information link) for more information on our course packs and copyright clearance process. You can also call Beverly at 231-7827.
8) We would like to receive a copy of your syllabus, especially if you are using more than one book for the class. That way we will know when each book will be used for the class, so we do not return the books before you will be using them in the classroom. This also gives us a list of books that you are possibly recommending to your students so we can possibly stock them as well in our trade book area.

9) A website to assist faculty in making adoption decisions is available. The Faculty Center Network link is a good resource of college textbooks and may be accessed from the bottom of our faculty information web page (log in site is www.facultycenter.net ). Please call the book department for the current User ID and Password.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
10) If you wish the bookstore to stock specific materials (goggles, calculators, art supplies, graphing paper, optional or recommended reading list titles such as dictionaries, etc.), it is helpful if you contact the appropriate department manager and give him or her enough lead time to get the materials in, but as of Fall Semester, these materials can be added to your adoptions! Include them in the message box as well if not available on the merchandise pages.
